The majestic barrack buildings still stand beautifully along the harbour here in Sønderborg. They were built in a German time back at the beginning of the 20th century, and have over the many years, among other things, housed German naval artillerymen and officers, experienced the Reunification in 1920, trained Danish soldiers, been the setting for asylum seekers and now as a hotel, office buildings and association activities, among others.

Today, the Gendarme Path and the many other historical experiences, monuments and stories can still be experienced up close in Sønderborg and the surrounding area.
